Rental policy

Please note that our rentals need to be returned at the same time as on pick up, example if you pick up on pickup date at 09:00 AM the rental needs to be returned on return date at 09:00 AM. But if you need extra hour or two don’t be scared to ask! We are flexible whenever we can.

Category policy

In the event where the camper you have requested is not available, we reserve the right to substitute vehicles with similar or higher-class vehicle.

We will always guarantee the number of seats/beds that you requested. However, we cannot guarantee the exact model of camper van that will be delivered to you. For this reason, the vehicle´s interior and layout may differ from the images displayed on our website. This mostly just applies to those who do not pay full price before pick up.

Car condition policy

The lessee must return the camper van in the same condition as he received it. In the event of damage to the vehicle or camper being dirty inside without prior payment of cleaning fee, charges may apply!

Camper van damage and cleaning charges: 

€ 50 for cleaning.

Up to € 700 for Interior damage and front window. (Shower, Sink, Table, cabinets, Dashboard etc.)

Up to € 3000 for Exterior damage. (Door, Tyre, Side and top windows, Lights, Body)

Fuel policy

The rental camper will have a full tank of fuel. The car should be returned full.

If the fuel tank is not returned the same, we will fill it up. However, 10% surcharge per liter of fuel and €10 refueling charge will be applied.

E-mail policy

Even though you might be excited and in a hurry to receive an answer from us, we reserve the right to answer your emails within 48 hours for the busiest days. Having said that, don’t be surprised if you receive a response within few minutes! However, if you do need answer right away just give as a call.

Cancellation, Refund policy

A cancellation fee of 100 euros will be applied, with the remaining amount refunded for cancellations made with a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to pickup. Unfortunately, no refund will be given for failure to pick up the camper van as scheduled.

Obligations of the Lessee:

  1. The lessee agrees to the provisions of this lease and has received a copy of it.
  2. The lessee will return the automobile:
    1. With all accessories (including tires and tools) in the condition they were in when received, with the exception of normal wear due to use.
    2. On the date specified by this lease, unless otherwise agreed later,
    3. To the lessor’s premises, unless otherwise agreed.
  3. If the lessee does not return the automobile at the time agreed upon in this lease, or does not declare his intention to extend the lease, the lessor or the police are authorized to repossess the vehicle without further notice and at the lessee’s cost. Extending the lease is dependent on the consent of the lessor. If the lessee returns the vehicle 1 hour or later after the lease has expired, the lessor is authorized to demand up to 24-hours rental under the terms of this lease.
  4. The vehicle shall be handled and driven carefully. Only those named as drivers on the first page of this agreement are authorized to drive the automobile. The lessee is liable for damage resulting from use of the automobile for which no compensation will be paid by the vehicle’s insurance company. This includes damage to the automobile and/or injury to passengers due to the following:
    1. Off-road driving,
    2. Driving across rivers or any kind of water course,
    3. Intentional acts or gross negligence,
    4. Use of intoxicants by the driver,
    5. Vehicle use that contravenes Icelandic law and/or the provisions of this lease.
  5. In the event of a collision or accident, the lessee shall immediately notify the lessor of the incident.
  6. The lessor is not responsible for the disappearance of or damage to property that the lessee or any other party leaves in or transports with the vehicle.
  7. The lessee agrees to pay the lessor, upon request:
    1. A deposit amounting to the estimated cost of hiring the car.
    2. Any and all expenses incurred by the lessor if he has to bring the vehicle back to his premises, in the event that it has been left somewhere without supervision, without regard to the condition of the vehicle, the roads, or the weather.
  8. The lessee is not authorized to have repairs done or make changes to the vehicle or its accessories, or to put the vehicle up as any kind of security, without the prior consent of the lessor.
  9. The lessee is liable for all parking meter charges and fines for breaking traffic laws and accepts to pay a 50€ processing fee if the lessee has to process the payments.
  10. The lessee is not authorized to use the vehicle to transport passengers for payment, loan it to others, or sublease it.
  11.  Lessee is obliged to return the vehicle with full tank of gas or the same level as received. If otherwise, lessor will be authorized to refill the vehicle and charge 10% surcharge per liter of fuel and €10 refueling charge will be applied.
  12. Lessee shall not smoke in the vehicle. Smoking or smell of cigarettes in the car will result in the penalty fee of 500€.

    Obligations of the Lessor:
  13. The lessor undertakes to supply the vehicle at the agreed time and to see that it meets the demands made for it.
  14. If the vehicle malfunctions, the lessor is responsible to fix the vehicle as soon as possible.
  15. The lessor shall disclose to the lessee the contents of this lease and in particular the obligations that he undertakes with his signature.
  16. The lessor shall inform a foreign lessee regarding Icelandic traffic regulations, traffic signs, and regulations banning off-road driving. The lessor shall particularly point out the dangers stemming from animals on the roads.
  17. If the lessor wants to limit use of the vehicle with regard to its equipment and/ or road conditions, this shall be done in writing when this lease is signed.
  18. The lessor undertakes to maintain valid liability insurance for his business operations.

    Insurance:
  19. Silver Package per rental – 9.000 ISK per day.
    Excess for all external damages goes down to 500.000 ISK.
    Excess for gravel damages goes down to 50% of the repair cost.
    Excess for Sand And Ash damages goes down to 500.000 ISK.
  20. Gold Package per rental – 14.000 ISK per day.
    Excess for all external damages goes down to 150.000 ISK.
    Excess for gravel damages goes down to 15% of the repair cost.
    Excess for Sand And Ash damages goes down to 150.000 ISK.
  21. Platinum Package for the entire selected rental period – 23.000 ISK per day.
    Excess for all external damages goes down to 0 ISK.
    Excess for gravel damages goes down to 0 ISK.
    Excess for Sand And Ash damages goes down to 0 ISK.

    General Provisions:
  22. If errors or miss-pricing occurs the lessor has the right to cancel any reservations.
  23. This lease agreement shall always be kept in the vehicle during the term of the lease.
  24. Additions and amendments to the conditions and provisions of this lease agreement shall be made in writing.
  25. Icelandic law applies to agreements made on the basis of the terms cited above. This includes any claims for compensation that might be made. This applies both to the basis for and the calculation of compensation. The same applies to claims for damages based on liability outside this agreement. If legal disputes arise concerning this lease agreement, they will be heard before the lessor’s legal venue.
  26. Disputes between the parties to this lease agreement can be submitted to the active Arbitration committee of the Icelandic Consumers Association and the Icelandic Travel Industry Association.
  27. The lessee gives permission to the lessor to charge for damages that occurred during the rental up to the insurance liability (see exceptions section 19-21). Lessee also gives permission to the rental company to keep his credit card information and sign the payment voucher in his name.
  28. Privacy policy: the information that is gathered by the company during the use of this website, will only be used for the purposes as indicated and in accordance with Icelandic law nr. 77/2000. Kodiak Campers will not give any information to third parties without the explicit permission of the visitor, except by demand of law enforcement. Furthermore, we strive to secure visitor information in such a manner that third parties cannot access this information. While great care is taken to prevent third party access, Kodiak Campers cannot be held responsible if information is obtained illegally by third parties. Our booking site is operated on the SSL Secure platform.
